With the first weekend of Coachella completed and everyone abuzz over the Tupac hologram debuted by Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg, the world is asking what we can expect from the project in the future. The deceased rapper came on stage to perform two songs on Sunday at the music mega festival in Indio, California. When asked after the show about any future plans for the hologram, Dr. Dre did not rule out bringing the illustrious illusion on tour with him this summer, saying he was “thinking about it” but nothing had been finalized. The rap star also hinted at similar hologram shows for Jimi Hendrix and Marvin Gaye in the future. Personally, I find the whole idea a bit creepy, but can’t deny I would be very likely to buy some tickets for hologram shows in the future, for the right band of course. Is this going to become a whole new viable segment of live entertainment or is this just a one-time stunt? With potentially huge demand to see deceased stars take up the stage one more time, I wouldn’t count it out. Hopefully I can count on seeing a super-band of the future, featuring Hendrix on lead guitar, Jim Morrison on vocals, John Paul Jones on drums, and Cliff Burton on bass. Probably not as good as the real thing, but I’d take it any day.
What an age we live in. The folks over at Coachella are going to be streaming a whole plethora of their live sets on Youtube. Bands such as The Black Keys, The Shins, Bon Iver and Chugg favourites Florence and the Machine, Wild Beasts, Laura Marling, and M83 will all be streamed over the weekend amongst many others.
The wonderful people at FasterLouder have been kind enough to calculate the Australian set times. Check it!
